Last night was testimony night. All 200+ girls gathered at the amphitheater with pillows and sleeping bags (and tissues!). They started off with one of the Bishopric. I can recall hearing so many beautiful testimonies that night, including my own. I bore of the love of Christ and that through my 10 girls i was able to see how Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us so much. After leaving the stage i was greeted by many open arms, some of those i didn't even know.
My friend Harley bore her testimony and her struggles, and i could see how much she's grown from this experience. Then I watch Bell, a girl who was diagnosed as epileptic when she was young and it has mentally affected her, she gave the most beautiful testimony. she said "I know that jesus loves me, i know that my mom and my sister love me, even if its hard to take care of me, i know they love me anyways". It was the most perfect beautiful evening i have ever experienced. So filled with Love. -Emma 6am - I wake up from voices. The girls were going polar dipping. Knowing I couldn't sleep all day, I dragged my self out of my cozy sleeping bag and into the cold and bug infested world.
Polar dipping is a cold feat, so I made everyone chocolate chip pancakes. It brings smiles and I am filled with happiness. We clean up, have devotional, then read our scriptures. As a YCL (Youth Camp Leader) you actually don't see your girls as much as you'd like too. But when we where all back at our unit that night, I had devotional. I pulled out a treasure chest and opened it, inside it was filled with tons of candy. The girls eyes widened. "This" i said, "Is for those who do a good deed for someone else". Almost immediately they began helping each other, daring my treasure chest within minutes. (Luckily I came prepared with a five gallon bucket full). It was amazing to see the environment it created, and once again I was astounded by their love for each other. I had to refill that thing three times a day. -Emma Morgan, Brianna, Naomi, and I paused and mentally prepared ourselves, we had just been assigned 10 younger girls to watch after.
After the younger campers arrived, we gathered them up and let them unpack. Not realizing until then that our a-frame was way too small for 14 people, but Morgan, who refused to be dismayed, began stuffing sleeping bags and camp gear in anyway. We were given the chance to take our girls to Ropes Course on the first day, this is where they learn to work as a team. They first played a team game out in the grassy field, then were brought into the shade where a diversity of courses made from ropes and tires were set up. The Log, a daunting team work game, where a log has been secure 6 feet up and is used to climb up and over. The rules are, you have to get your whole team over the log, you may sit on the log and pull girls up, but you may not climb up the tree to get on top of the log. Oh, and only one person can speak. This person was Audrey, 12 years old and 4 ft tall. She successfully got all 9 other girls over the log, but when it came down to her, no one was there to help push her up and she fell many times. the other 9 stood silently cheering her on, but after a few times, she begun to get dismayed and started crying, still she didn't stop. She successfully got here self over the log. When her feet hit the ground after she came over, she was enveloped in the other campers arms, I watched with tears in my eyes that even though we have the hardest group, I wouldn't trade, because the love that these girls have is undying. -Emma |
